Dr. Ripps prides himself on being a genuine "Connecticut Yankee." Born in Bridgeport and raised in New Haven, he always knew that this is where he wanted to practice medicine and to raise his family. Dr. Ripps graduated from Hamilton College with Honors and then attended Tufts University Medical School. He did a surgical internship at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. and a year of general surgery at Boston City Hospital before he joined the Air Force. During the Vietnam conflict he served as a Chief Flight Surgeon at Dyess AFB, a SAC air base in Abilene, Texas.

When Dr. Ripps left active duty, he took an orthopedic residency with the Washington University program at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He graduated that program in 1975, and came to Danbury as a solo practitioner that summer. He was the founder of Connecticut Family Orthopedics.

Over the last twenty-seven years Dr. Ripps has been very proactive in medical politics. He sat on the Board of the Fairfield County Medical Association for fourteen years and on the Legislative Committee of the Connecticut Medical Society for several years as well. For the last six years he served on the Board of the Connecticut State Orthopedic Society, and is currently the President of that organization. Dr. Ripps has contributed many editorials to our local papers and currently edits our Connecticut Orthopedic Newsletter and our educational periodical, No Bones About It.

Dr. Ripps has specialized in hip and knee replacement surgery and hand surgery. He has training and expertise in partial knee replacements. Dr Ripps believes doctors are primarily educators and that his patients need to participate in decisions regarding their health in an informed manner. He is also a board certified Independent Medical Examiner and has performed disability evaluations for personal injuries and workers compensation for twenty-five years.
